Dalwurra Black BitternAuthor: Mudrooroo. Just when you thought you’d seen every permutation of a Halloween story possible, here’s something very different. This wildly nonsensical rhyming story tells of how one black and bittern Halloween night, a group of children gather together to save their trick-or-treating after the town is overrun with SKUL-A-MUG-MUGS—a threatening hoard of angry-looking skeletons/5(19).

In this collection of poems, based on the traditional form of the manikay or song cycle, he adapts the story of Dalwurra, the black bittern, to his own experience, telling the story of a journey which leads DALWURRA - The Black BitternBook Edition: First Edition-Stiff Wraps With D.J.

Extensive freshwater marshes are the favored haunts of this large, stout, solitary heron. It is seldom seen as it slips through the reeds, but its odd pumping or booming song, often heard at dusk or at night, carries for long distances across the marsh.

You'll need sharp eyes to catch sight of an American Bittern. This streaky, brown and buff heron can materialize among the reeds, and disappear as quickly, especially when striking a concealment pose with neck stretched and bill pointed skyward. These stealthy carnivores stand motionless amid tall marsh vegetation, or patiently stalk fish, frogs, and insects.
